  • Description

Thousands of argentines queued in the Buenos Aires suburb of Olivos on Saturday (3 August) to see the embalmed remains of the late President Juan Peron - the first time the body has been on view since the lying-in-state of July.

A chapel containing the remains in the presidential residence was opened to the public at 9 a.m., and for the rest of the day Peron supporters filed through. Many emerged with tears in their eyes.

The body of the late President, who died on July 1, will remain in the chapel until it is transferred to a pantheon to be built to house the remains of the country's national heroes.

There General Peron will finally rest with the body of his first wife, the legendary Evita, who died in 1952.
