  • Description

Before a crowd of 56,000 at bloemfontein, South Africa, August 13- with the score at 11-3 against them- New Zealand's famous "All Blacks" rugby team drew with South Africa with a try and conversion in the last five minutes of the penultimate test match of the present series.

The score was 11-6 and defeat was close at hand for New Zealand when Laidlaw kicked over to wing McMullen. The ball bounced rather high, but McMullan just managed to bring it down to the ground. Clarke then converted with a spectacular kick.

A splendidly drilled "Springbok" pack was almost the undoing of New Zealand. In the second half the "All Blacks" were penned in their own half and making strenuous attempts to relieve the pressure. Largely due to the efforts of Don Clarke they successfully rallied in the final stages.

New Zealand and South Africa are soon to meet for their fourth and final test at Port Elizabeth. This will decide the series, for each have a victory to their credit, and the Bloemjontein draw makes them all level.
