Background: World Boxing Association featherweight champion Eusebio Pedroza retained his title in Seoul, South Korea on Sunday (20 July) after a knockout victory over South Korean challenger Kim Sa-Wang.

SYNOPSIS: The 23-year-old Pedroza, in the red shorts, was fighting the ninth defence of his crown. pedroza, confident from the start, scored repeatedly with his straight jabs and upper cuts.

Kim, one year younger than the champion, disappointed his home crowd by his ineffective punching.

In the fifth round, the South Korean's nose began to bleed after a flurry of blows by the champion which Kim seemed incapable of blocking.

The end came in the eighth round of the scheduled 15-round bout. Pedroza caught Kim with a formidable right upper cut to the stomach and followed it up with blows to the head.

Kim was simply unable to match Pedroza's speed. He collapsed to the canvas and failed to get up in time. Kim has had the relatively short professional career of three years against Pedroza's six. Kim has had 13 wins, ten of them by knockout. Pedroza has had 27 wins, 19 by knockout and has only been defeated three times.
