The official part of President Bayar of Turkey's West German tour finished on the evening of Saturday, May 10th. On that day he toured the Rhine, on board ship, at the invitation of Herr von Brentano, the Federal Foreign Minister. Unfortunately the weather spoilt the trip.
Saturday evening the Turkish Ambassador, Settar Iksel, held a dinner and reception in honour of the Turkish and German President, Bayar and Heuss. Over 500 guests were invited to the reception. Throughout the major part of the evening the German President, Prof. Heuss, Dr. Adenauer. Federal Chancellor, Prof. Erhard, Economics Minister, had political discussions with the Turkish President and his Foreign Minister, Zorlu.
Later there was a visit to the Baden Aniline-Soda Factory--- BASF--on Sunday morning, 11th. May. The Director-General of the Group presented President Bayar with a tape recorder and a set of magnetic tapes. The group manufactures the latter.
Whilst in the works, the President was informed of a Nitrogen Plant being built near Ankara, Turkey, by BASF President and his party travelled to the factory at Ludwigshafen by a special train.
From Ludwigshafen the Turkish party went to Frankfurt airport and boarded a plane for West Berlin.
A significant outcome of the Turkish President's tour of West Germany is the ratification of various culture that will bring German and Turkish universities and scientific societies closer together for research co-operation.
