Background: In Bikirki 15 miles north of Beirut hires the archbishop of all the Maronites of the near East Patriarch Paul Meouchi. This morning he gave a press conference to all foreign correspondents, newsmen and newsreel & TV men. The Marouites are the Roman's Catholics of Leharion. They are the majority in member amongst other religious that make up the inhabitants of Lebanon. So as a non-written rule the President of the Republic is to be always a maronite. The Patriarch of the Maronites is usually a very respected man in Lebanon and with large authority. He is however always under the rule of the Pope. Meouchi who has been Patriarch for the last three years. For many personal and Political reasons he made it known that he is against President Chamoun. So automatically the opposition leaders gathered around him and profited from his ammosity with the President. In his Press conference Meouchi said (wrongly) that the cause of this crisis in Lebanon is corruption and bad government of the ruler. We know that the reason is the Pro-western policy of Chamoun. Meouchi showed prejudice and unfriendliness in his talk against Chamoun. His opinion to solve this crisis is to have Charmoun go away for a vacation outside Lebanon until his term finishes and let general Chekab rule the country. Meouchi as a religious chief should have shown more Christian spirit in his talk. The Christian of Lebanon are 90% now backing President Chamoun. There is a rumour that the Pope asked Meouchi to come to Rome on the earliest occasion. Meouchi it is said is trying to find practical solution for this crisis, but prejudiced as he seems against Chamoun he will never be successful.
