Background: The leader of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation, Yasser Arafat, is to visit Iran for talks with the Iranian religious leader, the Ayatollah Khomeini. The PLO representative in Teheran, Hani Al Hassan has said that the two leaders will discuss a joint strategy to combine the revolution going on in Iran and the Palestinian revolution. Hani Al Hassan held a news conference in Teheran this week to prepare the way for Yasser Arafat.
SYNOPSIS: Hassan told newsmen at the press conference that relations between the Palestinian and the Iranians were growing ever stronger because they were in the same trench. He explained that the time was right for an alliance between the two because the Middle East was approaching an important confrontation with both Zionism and imperialism.
Hassan also talked about a PLO campaign to have the former Shah of Iran extradited from Panama. He said that the PLO's political department was currently working on a campaign designed to persuade non-aligned countries to make extradition applications to the Panamanian government. He accused the Shah of being a murderer and declared that the Palestinian Liberation Organisation was right behind Iran in its attempts to bring the Shah to justice. Hassan said that the current President of the non aligned movement, Cuba's President Fidel Castro, was very interested in the campaign.
Hassan admitted that the campaign for the Shah's extradition may not succeed but an attempt had to be made. If the campaign fails, Hassan assured journalists that there were other ways of dealing with the Shah.
