Salsomaggiore, near Milan, is a famous Italian health resort, but not only the ailing visit this beautiful place. Every year thousands of tourists through the streets to watch the Flower Float Parade.
Made with flowers grown in the vicinity, the floats this year depicted different regions of Italy, beauty, harmony and of course the forthcoming Olympic Games to be held in Rome.
Vineyards, rice paddies and the source of the River Po were colourfully represented on the Piedmont region's float. The Aosta Valley was shown as an island surrounded by mountains covered in edelweiss, and two children sat in a model cable-car. Milan Cathedral formed the main part of the Lombardy float. Girls in traditional dress were as pretty as the flowers on the Trentino alpine float.
As the floats proceeded to the judging area, beautiful girls on the floats pelted the crowds with flowers. These were quickly returned by the carnival-minded onlookers.
