TRAVELLING BY CAR FROM SYRIA, WHERE THEY HAD BEEN CONDUCTING ENQUIRIES, THE GROUP HALTED AT BAKA'A REFUGEE CAMP ON THEIR WAY TO AMMAN, THE JORDAN CAPITAL.

THE COMMITTEE, WHICH IS HEADED BY A ZAMBIAN DELEGATE AND HAS THREE OTHER MEMBERS, MET CAMP OFFICIALS. LATER, IN THE CAMP'S REFUGEE CLUB, THEY HEAD EVIDENCE FROM SOME OF THE 60,000 PALESTINIANS AT BAKA'A.

IN AMMAN, THE COMMITTEE WILL DISCUSS THE ALLEGATIONS AND HEAR MORE WITNESSES WITH A THREE-MAN JORDANIAN GROUP. THEY ARE ALSO EXPECTED TO HAVE MEETINGS WITH JORDAN'S NEW PRIME MINISTER BAHJAT AL-TALHOUNI, AND FOREIGN MINISTER ABDEL MONEIM AL-RIFAI.

THE VISIT TO JORDAN IS PART OF A TWO WEEK TOUR BY THE COMMITTEE TO PROBE ALLEGATIONS OF MALTREATMENT OF CIVILIANS IN ARAB TERRITORIES OCCUPIED BY ISRAEL DURING THE JUNE 1967 WAR.

PRIOR TO SYRIA AND JORDAN, THEY HAD HEARD EVIDENCE IN THE LEBANON. AFTER JORDAN, THEY WILL GO TO CAIRO, BEFORE REPORTING THEIR FINDINGS TO THE INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE ON HUMAN RIGHTS.

ISRAEL HAS REFUSED TO CO-OPERATE IN THE GROUP'S INVESTIGATIONS.
