After holding an interview with Generalissimo Franco in El Pardo, Prince Juan Carlos de Borbon visits the High Council of Scientific Research in Madrid, where he is greeted by ex-Minister Sr. Ibanez Martin, President of the Council; the Patriarch of the Indies and Bishop of Madrid- Alcala Dr. Eijo de Garay, and other personalities. His Highness tours the different installations of this cultural institution which possesses valuable elements for study and experimentation of those who in Spain are engaged in research work. After a two hour visit, the Prince signs in the Book of Honour of this center and departs.
During his sojourn in Madrid, His Highness also visits the Hospital-Asylum of Saint Raphael for the treatment and recovery of sick children. Here also he is dispensed a most warm reception. One of the small boys reads a message of salutation in the name of all the inmates of the hospital. The staff of doctors and physicians explains to the Prince the operation of this institution, a model in its class. A children band renders a musical recital in honour of their royal guest.
In the Club de Campo or Country Club, Prince Juan Carlos attends a riding festival. The public greets his presence with a great ovation.
H.R.H. also visits the Club de Puerta de Hierro where he attends a horseriding competition and talks with the Club's board and several members, some of them his companions during his High School days.
From Madrid, His Highness goes to Toledo where accompanied by the Marquess of Mondejar he visits the Infantry Military Academy. In the classrooms and laboratories he hears the explanation of the professors on the training given there to the Cadeta. He directly checks the operation of some devices.... and tours the classes of topography and motors, chemical war, armament and others.
His last day in Madrid, the Prince, together with the Duke de la Torre and the Marquess of Mondejar visits the Pegaso Automobile Factory where he personally verifies the importance of the installation in whose main shop 1300 machine-tools are in operation.
He admires the different models of touring cars constructed by this Spanish factory and together with Sr. Palacio he tests one of the cars.
