    JUDD: "WELL, WE'VE COME HERE ON BEHALF OF ALMOST 60 LABOUR M.P.'S AND ALSO THE WELSH NATIONALIST, GWYNFORD EVANS, WHO SIGNED THIS LETTER AS A PROTEST AGAINST WHAT WE REGARD AS A COMPLETELY ILLEGAL TRIAL IN PRETORIA OF THE SOUTH WEST AFRICANS. AND WE HOPE THAT A PROTEST FROM A GOOD CROSS-SECTION OF PARLIAMENTARY LABOUR PARTY AND THE WELSH NATIONALISTS WILL IN FACT HELP US IN OUR CAMPAIGN TO SEE THESE PRISONERS RELEASED."

    THE PROTEST WAS ORGANISED BY THE WORLD CAMPAIGN FOR THE RELEASE OF SOUTH AFRICAN POLITICAL PRISONERS, HEADED BY CANON JOHN COLLING.

    THE LETTER, ADDRESSED TO SOUTH AFRICAN AMBASSADOR HENDRIK LUTTING, SAID THE ARREST OF THE SOUTH WEST AFRICANS WAS ILLEGAL. IT URGED THEIR RELEASE AND RETURN TO THEIR HOMES.
