    FIFTY-SIX MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT, ALL BELONGING TO THE RULING LABOUR PARTY, SIGNED A LETTER SENT TO THE SOUTH AFRICAN EMBASSY IN LONDON TODAY (THURSDAY) PROTESTING AGAINST THE VERDICT OF GUILTY PASSED ON 33 OUT OF 35 SOUTH WEST AFRICANS RECENTLY ON TRIAL IN PRETORIA. ABOUT HALF A DOZEN DEMONSTRATORS, CARRYING HOUSE AFTER THE LETTER HAS HANDED IN.

    THE PROTEST WAS ORGANISED BY THE WORLD CAMPAIGN FOR THE RELEASE OF SOUTH AFRICAN POLITICAL PRISONERS, HEADED BY CANON JOHN COLLING.

    THE LETTER, ADDRESSED TO SOUTH AFRICAN AMBASSADOR HENDRIK LUTTING, SAID THE ARREST OF THE SOUTH WEST AFRICANS WAS ILLEGAL. IT URGED THEIR RELEASE AND RETURN TO THEIR HOMES.
