    THE 1965 BRITISH GAMES STARTED TODAY (SATURDAY) AT WHITE CITY STADIUM NEAR LONDON, AND BRITISH ATHLETES SCORED SOME GOOD VICTORIES IN THE OPENING EVENTS OF THE TWO-DAY PROGRAMME.

    THE GAMES ARE HELD ON AN INTER-COUNTY BASIS, AND THIS YEAR'S COMPETITION IS EXPECTED TO GIVE THE FIRST GLIMPSE OF SOME OF BRITAIN'S ATHLETIC HOPES FOR THE 1968 OLYMPIC GAMES IN MEXICO CITY.

    AS WELL INTER-COUNTY EVENTS, A NUMBER OF INTERNATIONAL RACES WERE CONDUCTED. THESE ATTRACTED ATHLETES FROM SUCH COUNTRIES AS AUSTRALIA, WEST GERMANY, HUNGARY, BELGIUM. ATHLETES FROM THIRTY SIX ENGLISH COUNTIES HAVE ENTERED IN THE GAMES.

    TULLOH, WHO HOLDS THE NATIONAL RECORD FOR THE THREE MILES IN THE UNITED KINGDOM (13 MIN. 12 SECS.) WON TODAY IN 13 MINUTES, 29.6 SECONDS, SIX SECONDS SLOWER THAN HIS PERFORMANCE LAST YEAR. HIS RECORD WAS SET AT SOUTHAMPTON FOUR YEARS AGO.

    LYNN DAVIES, OF GLAMORGANSHIRE, WON THE LONG JUMP WITH A LEAP OF 25 FEET 6 1/2 INCHES. HE ALSO WON THE 100 YARDS IN 10.1 SECONDS.
