    M. JEAN REY, PRESIDENT OF THE COMMON MARKET COMMISSION, WHO IS ON A FOUR-DAY VISIT TO SENEGAL, SPOKE ON MONDAY TO SENEGAL'S SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC COUNCIL. THE MEETING TOOK PLACE IN THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY BUILDING IN DAKAR.

    M. REY WAS MET ON HIS ARRIVAL AT THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY BY M. AMADOU CISSE DIA, PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY, M. MAGATTE, PRESIDENT OF SENEGAL'S ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL, AND OTHER OFFICIALS. M. REY'S VISIT COMES SHORTLY BEFORE NEGOTIATIONS FOR THE RENEWAL OF THE YAOUNDE CONVENTION WHICH LINKS 18 AFRICAN COUNTRIES TO THE COMMON MARKET.

    M. REY WAS INTRODUCED TO MEMBERS OF THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL BY. M. MAGATTE ITS PRESIDENT. IN HIS SPEECH M. REY SAID THAT THE DETERIORATION OF TRADING TERMS TO THE DETRIMENT OF PRIMARY PRODUCERS WAS A WORLD PROBLEM WHICH COULDN'T BE SOLVED BY THE COMMON MARKET COUNTRIES ALONE. HE ADDED THAT THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITY IS THE BIGGEST SINGLE IMPORTER OF PRODUCTS FROM THE DEVELOPING COUNTRIES. BEFORE LEAVING FOR MALI AND THE IVORY COAST, M. REY WILL VISIT PROJECTS FINANCED BY THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITY.

    M. REY SAID THAT ON OCTOBER 11, PRESIDENT HAMANI DIORI, OF NIGER VISITED THE COMMON MARKET COMMISSION IN BRUSSELS. PRESIDENT DIORI WAS ACTING AS SPOKESMAN FOR THE 18 AFRICAN COUNTRIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE COMMON MARKET. M. REY PRAISED PRESIDENT DIORI AND THE AFRICAN COUNTRIES' SENSE OF REALISM AND UNDERSTANDING OF COMMON PROBLEMS BETWEEN THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITY AND ITS AFRICAN ASSOCIATES. SPEAKING OF HIS MEETING WITH PRESIDENT DIORI M. REY SAID:
