    One of the most important events of the summer sporting calendar in New South Wales - the State Surfing championships..They were held this year at Port Kembla Beach.This is the final of the senior surf boat race.

    The surf was disappointingly flat - and the boat crews were forced to row the entire distance - The race was won by the Daves - a beach near Newcastle.Freshwater, of Sydney, was second.Guests at the official stand included the Governor, Sir Eric Woodward.Another interested spectator was Prince Richard of Gloucester.

    This is the start of the Senior Surf Race.More than one hundred clubs sent members to the carnival.Finalists will represent New South Wales at the Australian Surf Championships to be held at Warrnambool in south western Victoria on the ninth and tenth of March
