  • Description

The Acting Ethnarch of the Greek Orthodox Church in Cyprus, Bishop Anthimos of Kitium, arrived in Athens this evening for talks with his boss, the exiled Archbishop Makarios. They will discuss the plan for Cyprus submitted by the British Government to its Greek counterpart.

On arrival Bishop Anthimos said that the situation in Cyprus was 'obscure'.

In an interview on Tuesday, June 17th.--the eve of the British Premier's announcement on the proposed system of government in Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios was annoyingly vague in answering questions about his activities and other relevant subjects.

To the question, "Why did you never condemn the EOKA terrorists organisation?" the Archbishop replied, "The communication of EOKA was not the way to stop EOKA!"
Asked what he thought the position of the 100,000 Turks in Cyprus should be, he answered, "I think the Turks should have minority rights."--with the accent on minority.
