  • Description

The United States Air Force is training its airmen in new vigorous techniques on how to survive in water.

The training is being conducted at Japan's Imazawa Beach, 100 miles north of Tokyo, Japan.

The object of the training is to give crewmen greater knowledge on how to survive in water and greater confidence that they can when they are on over-water missions.

The students are given thorough grounding in a classroom before they are taken out to deep water and jump into the sea. They are taught how to prepare for fat pickups from a speedy boat. The technique was developed to retrieve underwater combat demolition teams.

The Fifth Air Force is training 50 students a week during five months of the year.
