    THE WORLD'S MAIN COCOA PRODUCING AND CONSUMING COUNTRIES TODAY STARTED A TWO-WEEK MEETING IN GENEVA, SWITZERLAND, TO TRY TO REMOVE OBSTACLES IN THE WAY OF A NEW PACT TO REGULATE WORLD TRADE IN COCOA. TODAY, WHEN HE ADDRESSED THE OPENING SESSION OF THE MEETING, DR MANUEL PEREZ GUERRERO, SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE U.N. CONFERENCE ON TRADE AND DEVELOPMENT, SAID THAT IT MIGHT BE POSSIBLE TO CONCLUDE THE AGREEMENT BY THE END OF THIS YEAR.

    REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 14 NATIONS TAKING PART IN THE MEETING WERE TOLD BY DR PEREZ GUERRERO THAT IT WAS NECESSARY FOR THEM TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEMS WHICH THEY THEMSELVES COULD SETTLE, AS DISTINCT FROM THOSE TO BE TACKLED AFTER THE CONFERENCE BY THE MACHINERY CREATED TO RUN THE AGREEMENT.

    PRODUCER COUNTRIES TAKING PART IN THE MEETING ARE GHANA, THE IVORY COAST, NIGERIA, BRAZIL, CAMEROUN, ECUADOR, AND MEXICO. IMPORTERS REPRESENTED ARE THE UNITED STATES, WEST GERMANY, THE UNITED KINGDOM, HOLLAND, THE U.S.S.R., SWITZERLAND AND FRANCE.
