Background: Iraqi Vice-President Saddam Hussein arrived in Algiers on Tuesday (14 December) on a one-day flying visit to Algeria.
SYNOPSIS: Mr. Hussein was met at the airport by Algerian Foreign Minister Abdul Baiteflika.
The Iraqi leader was accompanied by a delegation of ten -- comprised of cabinet ministers and government officials.
He received a full state welcome and took a salute from an Algerian guard of honour.
After completing airport formalities, Vice-President Hussien met with Algerian President Houari Boumediene. Bi-lateral relations and Arab unity were topics of discussion between the two leaders.
The current OPEC ministerial meeting in Qatar was also discussed.
The talks lasted just over four hours and were described as "satisfactory and fruitful" by representatives from both sides.
