  • Description

One of the key African Nationalist leaders in Jamaica for the Commonwealth Summit Conference was Joshua Nkomo, of Rhodesia.

During the conference, many important decisions were made by Commonwealth Heads of State concerning the future of Rhodesia.

Speaking to newsmen after the conference had ended, Mr. Nkomo commented on the support given by the leaders of the Commonwealth.

He said the only solution to his country's problems would come at a conference summoned by Britain and attended by Africans and Mr. Ian Smith, the Rhodesian Prime Minister. But he made it clear that black majority rule will emerge even if Mr. Smith does not co-operate in talks.

He said his people would fight against oppression, and "stand up and liberate themselves."
