    Squash -- and Australia beat England two-one in a women's international tournament at the Egbaston Priory Club in Birmingham, England on Wednesday (22 February).

    SYNOPSIS: The Australian girl, Anne Smith (with the long hair) -- ranked number four in Australia -- found herself up against the English number 4, Jayne Ashton, in the first match. She soon dominated play from the centre of the court and took an early lead by two games to one.

    In the final game with Miss Ashton serving at love-eight down, the Australian girl maintained her control of the court. She continued to play the more disciplined squash and forced her opponent to make many mistakes.

    Eight-nil in the final game and Miss Smith served for the match...Throughout the game she had kept her English opponent stretched by always taking up the better position on the court and she came through three games to one, 9-1, 8-10, 9-7, 9-0.

    England's only victory went to Sue Cogswell (on the left) the English number one. Throughout her game against Margaret Zachariah -- ranked number one in Australia -- she was the more mobile round the court. She won the South African Championship last year finished second in the Australian Championship and has played consistently well this year. The Australian girl was nursing a damaged heel during the match and was beaten in straight sets 9-4, 9-6, 9-5.
