    Top finance officials and diplomats from Latin American countries and Jamaica began urgent discussions in Buenos Aires on Friday (3 September) evening on measures to be adopted in the light of recent United States decisions on the dollar -- part of President Nixon's attempts to curb inflation.

    Delegates from member countries of C.E.C.L.A. (Latin American Special Coordinating Commission) met in the capital's luxurious San Martin Theatre. One of the main items discussed was the effect of the dollar crisis on Argentina's economy -- 70 per cent of the country's exports to the United States will be affected by the surcharge measures.

    SYNOPSIS: Top finance experts and diplomats from Latin American countries met in Buenos Aires on Friday evening to discuss measure to be adopted in the wake of President Nixon's decisions on the dollar. Delegate from CECLA -- the Latin American special coordinating commission -- met in the luxurious San Martin Theatre in the centre of the capital.

    The Commission's President, Senor Juan Quilici, addressed the delegates on there Quilici, addressed the delegates on three items -- the repercussions of dollar inconvertibility on the world monetary system, predictable consequences for Latin American economies, and the effect on Latin American countries of the new surcharge on imports to the United States.

    Argentina could be badly affected by the surcharge measures.

    Some 70 per cent of the country exports to the United States are likely to come under the new ruling.
