  • Description

King Hussein of Jordan arrived at Ankara, Turkey, Apr 14, for a brief stay after his visit to Persia, and was met at the airport by Turkish President Bayar, National Assembly President Koraltan, and Premier Menderes, as well as other ministers and officials.

After inspecting a Guard of Honour, and receiving applause from a number of Jordanians resident in Turkey, King Hussein and his hosts drove into the city. In the outskirts of Ankara, King and President changed into an open car, affording an easier view to welcoming crowds. Their motorised escort was replaced by more picturesque cavalry.

In the afternoon, Hussein had talks with the Turkish President, Premier, and Foreign Minister.

He told a Press conference Apr 15, that Jordan had not been asked to join any treaty organisation, and that she would defend her own freedom. Iraq's situation was "confused and unstable and the threat of Communism persists there."
King Hussein left Ankara, Apr 15, for Istanbul where, during a 3-day visit he visited his father, ex-King Tallal, who has been under treatment in an Istanbul hospital for some years. The King's mother also lives in Istanbul.
