    THE DAY AFTER THEIR ARRIVAL IN DJAKARTA TO PAVE THE WAY FOR A FINAL SETTLEMENT OF INDONESIA'S ARMED CONFRONTATION, A THREE-MAN PEACE MISSION FROM MALAYSIA VISITED THE HEADQUARTERS OF THE "CRUSH MALAYSIA COMMAND" (KOGAM). THE MISSION, LED BY COLONEL YUSOF BIN IBRAHIM, OF THE MALAYSIAN MINISTRY OF DEFENCE, ALSO HAD PRIVATE TALKS WITH GENERAL SUHARTO, THE INDONESIAN ARMY CHIEF.

    THE MISSION'S VISIT TO THE KOGAM HEADQUARTERS ON SATURDAY (AUGUST 6) FOLLOWED A PRIVATE SESSION OF TALKS WITH GENERAL SUHARTO (HOLDER OF EXECUTIVE POWER IN INDONESIA). SINCE THEN THERE HAS BEEN EVERY INDICATION THAT THE PACT ENDING CONFRONTATION WILL FINALLY BE SIGNED THIS WEEK. MALASIAN DEPUTY PREMIER, TUN ABDUL RAZAK WAS EXPECTED TO FLY TO DJAKARTA TO SIGN THE PACT ON THURSDAY (AUGUST 11).

    FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS THE KOGAM HEADQUARTERS HAD BEEN THE SCENE OF MILITARY PLANNING IN THE CAMPAIGN TO CRUSH MALAYSIA. THE MALAYSIAN MISSION WERE SHOWN THE OPERATIONS ROOM, AND WERE REPORTED TO HAVE HAD FRIENDLY AND CORDIAL TALKS WITH THE INDONESIAN OFFICIALS AT THE HEADQUARTERS.

    THE TWO OTHER MEMBERS OF THE MALAYSIAN MISSION WERE POLICE SUPERINTENDENT HARUN BIN ABDUL RAHMAN, AND INCHE ABDUL LATIF BIN DATO HARUN, FROM THE RESEARCH DIVISION OF THE PRIME MINISTER'S DEPARTMENT.
