    THE PAINTINGS ARE NOT ONLY UNUSUAL THEY ARE EDIBLE TOO THAT IS IF THE NEW OWNERS DON'T MIND THE FLAVOUR OF THE PRESERVATIVE USED TO KEEP THE MATERIALS FRESH. THE MATERIALS ..... LIQUORICE.
    THE IDEA BEHIND THE AUCTION BEGAN WHEN THE ARTISTS WERE INVITED TO TAKE PART IN A "LIQUORICE ART" EXPERIMENT AS PART OF COPENHAGEN'S 800TH ANNIVERSARY.
    A SWEET FACTORY IN THE CITY PROVIDED THE ARTISTS WITH ALL THEIR BASIC MATERIALS WHICH THEY CHOSE AFTER PERSONAL INSPECTION.
    THE FINISHED WORKS OF ART WERE OFFICIALLY HANDED OVER IN SEPTEMBER OF LAST YEAR AND HUNG IN THE WINDOW OF A COPENHAGEN DEPARTMENT STORE.
    UNTIL TUESDAY THE PAINTINGS HAD BEEN ON TOUR IN SEVERAL COUNTRIES. NOW THEY MAKE TASTEFUL ADDITIONS TO THE HOMES OF THEIR NEW OWNERS.
