For the armed forces of the Chad Republic it was an important day, the presentation of colours to their new Chief of Staff. His appointment had been announced two days earlier, following a shuffle of President Tombalbaye's Ministers.

Then the new Chief of Staff, Colonel Malloum, stopped forward to receive the colours from the President. Officers and government ministers watched attentively as the ceremony unfolded.
