    Background: KHARTOUM, SUDAN

The Arab Middle-East peace initiative has been discussed by the members of the Arab League Co-ordination Committee, who met for the thirteenth time in Khartoum on December 21. The Sudanese President, Mr. Jafaar Nimeiri, addressed the delegates, who are mainly specialists from Arab organisations. The meeting was also addressed by the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Mr. Chedli Klibi. He has recently been on a tour with a seven-man Arab League delegation for talks on the Middle East, which have focussed on plans for a withdrawal of Israeli and Syrian troops from Lebanon. Mr. Klibi briefed the Committee on the results and contacts made during his trip, which included discussions with the leaders of USA, USSR, China and France. The committee also discussed the role of specialist organisations in agricultural development in the Sudan.
