Chicago - world's busiest airport - and July 25, one of the many arrivals was Vice President of the United States Richard M. Nixon and his wife. He flew in for the Republican Party's Convention in the city, and to face a big barrage of criticism from the Party's extreme right wing on his clandestine policy making meeting with New York State Governor Nelson Rockefeller - held at Rockefeller's New York apartment during the night.
But as Nixon stepped from the aircraft accompanied by comely Mrs. Nixon he seemed cheerful. Greeted by his two daughters who had flown in to the Convention city earlier, he took the microphone to acknowledge a big greeting from his supporters.
It was a warm day - he said - and his friends here had given him a really warm welcome. He was glad to be among them in this warm-hearted city.
