A possible new remedy for an old menace. At Argentina, Newfoundland, a United States Coast?

  • Description

A possible new remedy for an old menace. At Argentina, Newfoundland, a United States Coast Guard amphibian of the International Ice Patrol loads up with powerful medicine for big icebergs drifting south late in the season.

This whopper is one of many which have made this spring among the worst since the Titanic hit one and sank in nineteen twelve. The bombs contain a cluster of bomblets--designed to set up a heat of four-thousand degree fahrenheit. It's hoped they will start large fractures in the bergs and split them up, reducing the danger to shipping. It's a hit, but the berg seems unaffected. Armour-piercing bombs may have to be used in future experiments.
