  • Description

SCIENTISTS AT SOUTHWEST RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NEAR SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, ARE WORKING ON A CRASHED ADDITIVE WHICH MAY SLOW THE RAPID DESTRUCTION OF CRASHED AIRCRAFT. THEIR RESEARCH INTO THE LIFE-SAVING DEVELOPMENT IS SPONSORED BY THE ARMY TRANSPORTATION CORPS.

ONE OF THE GREAT DANGERS IN A PLANE CRASH COMES AT IMPACT... WHEN THE FUEL ARE RUPTURED. THE SPILLED FUEL IGNITES, EXPLODES AND THE AIRCRAFT IS COVERED IN FLAMES.

IN THE FUTURE PILOTS MAY BE ABLE TO TURN THEIR FUEL TO A SLOW-BURNING JELLY BEFORE A CRASH. WHEN A CRASH SEEMS IMMINENT THE PILOT WILL PUSH A BUTTON, INJECTING INTO THE FUEL SYSTEM THE FIRST OF TWO CHEMICALS. THE FIRST CHEMICAL HAS NO EFFECT ON THE FUEL AND ENGINE PERFORMANCE. WHEN IT THEN APPEARS THAT THE CRASH CANNOT BE AVERTED, THE PILOT ADDS A SECOND CHEMICAL INSTANTLY TURNING THE LIQUID FUEL INTO A JELLY-LIKE MASS.

FILM SHOWS SCIENTISTS DEMONSTRATING THE PRINCIPLE WITH TWO MODEL AIRCRAFT, FIRST USING JP-4, STANDARD JET PLANE FUEL, THEN ADDING THE JELLYFYING SUBSTANCE.
