    Lord Alport left Lusaka on Saturday for Malawi after a private visit to Zambia.

    He was seen off at the airport by Mr Lawrence Pumphrey, the British High Commissioner in Zambia.

    Lord Alport was British High Commissioner in the Central African Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland from 1961 to 1963. He was British Government special representative to Rhodesia in 1967 during tentative negotiations to regularise relations between Britain and Rhodesia. His present visit to Africa -- a four-week tour including Zambia, Malawi, Rhodesia and South Africa -- is a private one.
