    RON CLARKE OF AUSTRALIA BEAT HIS OWN OFFICIAL WORLD RECORD TIME FOR THREE MILES FOR THE SECOND TIME IN ONE WEEK AT TORONTO ON THURSDAY. CLARKE FINISHED THE RACE IN 13 MINUTES 03.4 SECONDS - 4.2 SECONDS INSIDE HIS OFFICIAL WORLD RECORD TIME OF 13 MINUTES 07.6 SECONDS.

    CLARKE WON THE RACE EASILY. HE LED FOR THE FIRST THREE LAPS OF THE RACE AND THEN WAS CONTENT TO LET FELLOW-AUSTRALIAN ALBERT THOMAS MAKE THE PACE. BUT IN THE FIFTH LAP, CLARKE AGAIN WENT TO THE FRONT - AND FROM THAT MOMENT HE INCREASED HIS LEAD STEADILY. THE SECOND PLACE-GETTER, RON LARRIEU, WHO HOLDS THE AMERICAN SIX-MILE RECORD, WAS EIGHT SECONDS BEHIND CLARKE AT THE TAPE. ANOTHER AMERICAN, BILLY MILLS WAS THIRD.

    CLARKE SET THE OFFICIAL WORLD TIME FOR THE THREE MILES LAST DECEMBER. RACING IN LOS ANGELES LAST WEEK HE BETTERED THIS IN A TIME OF 13 MINUTES AND FOUR-TENTHS OF A SECOND.
