DOMINATING THE FIRST DAY IN THE COMBINED RESULTS WAS OVERALL WORLD CHAMPION MIKE SUYDERHOUD, CAPTAIN OF THE UNITED STATES TEAM; WHO WON TWO OF THE THREE MEN'S EVENT - THE THIRD EVENT (SLALOM) WAS WON BY COLIN FAULKNER; AUSTRALIA'S 1967 - OVERALL CHAMPION.

    FAULKNER ALSO CAME IN THIRD IN THE COMBINED RESULTS FOR THE DAY.

    AMONG THOSE PARTICIPATING, WAS SPAIN'S VICTOR PALERMO - WHO SHOWED GOOD FORM TO TAKE SECOND PLACE IN THE SLALOM. BUT HE WAS OUTPOINTED BY FAULKNER.

    TWENTY-YEAR-OLD HAGEN KLIE WAS A MEMBER OF THE GERMAN TEAM WHICH WON THE NORTHERN EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP LAST YEAR.

    DURING THE MEN'S JUMP, ITALY'S PEA FELL - BUT, AFTER BEING RESCUED BY A BOAT, CLEARED ON HIS SECOND TRY.

    FRANCE'S CHRISTIAN RAISIN WAS THE 1967 AND 68 WINNER OF THE WILLS INTERNATIONAL TRICKS EVENT.

    JOE CSORTAN, AUSTRALIA'S OVERALL CHAMPION FOR 1968, HAD A BAD START BUT LATER RECUPERATED TO COME IN SECOND BOTH IN THE JUMP AND IN THE DAY'S COMBINED RESULTS.

    THIRD IN THE JUMP WAS THE USA'S ALAN KEMPTON, THE WORLD'S REIGNING TRICKS AND JUMPING CHAMPION.

    BUT IT WAS MIKE SUYDERHOU'S DAY - ENDING WITH A COMBINED RESULTS OF 2906.58 POINTS.

    THE CHAMPIONSHIPS END TOMORROW (SUNDAY).
