  • Description

One of the world's biggest and most flawless diamonds fetched 2,200,000 Swiss France (210,000 sterling) when it was auctioned for the first time in Geneva on Thursday (November 19). The 45.05 carat emerald-cut diamond, which was unmounted, was mined in South Africa and cut only last summer.

The diamond was sold in an auction staged by Christie's, the London auctioneers, and bought by Christie's Paris representative, Princess Jeanne-Marie de Broglie, on behalf of an unnamed European private client.

The sale as a whole realised a world record 15,133,600 Swiss France (1,500,000 sterling).
