today a number of german schoolboys from iserlohn spent a day with an old british regiment with still older tradition. they are the 1st battalion of the 1st regiment of the east anglians located at the Aldershot barracks of Iserlohn. in the morning 10.00 a bus with the guests arrived at the barracks welcomed by army officers. later they went into the training field for taking a look who, how the british army is preparing for being fit incase of war. they first saw a wireless operator group with their various installations. later a anti tank platoon, followed by a trench mortar. incase of a german christian holiday, (Bus and Bettag) the fire and shooting demonstrations had been cancelled. but another highlight was to see old british mess table silver etc. including old silver figures. than the group saw the fully dressed army band playing the River Kwai march and a german one Alte Kameraden, old comrades. The day was closed with a original army luncheon.
another interesting date: in 1759 the Royal Norfolks Infantery Regiment together with a german regiment defeated a french cavallery regiment.
three month ago the norfolks and the suffolks amalgamated to the 1st east anglian regiment in germany. Iserlohn.
