    THE CREW AND PASSENGERS OF THE "FUNABASHI" ARE STAYING ABOARD UNTIL THE EXTENT OF THE BRITISH SHIP'S DAMAGE CAN BE JUDGED. SHE IS BADLY DAMAGED ABOUT THE BOW.

    THE 7,176 TON LIBERIAN FREIGHTER WAS ON ITS WAY FROM BANGKOK IN THAILAND TO COLOMBO IN CEYLON WITH A LARGE CARGO OF RICE. SHE SANK TWO HOURS AFTER THE COLLISION. THE CREW - INCLUDING A FAVOURITE CAT NAMED VIETCONG - MANAGED TO COLLECT TOGETHER THEIR BELONGINGS AND LEAVE THE SHIP 30 MINUTES BEFORE SHE CAPSIZED AND WERE BROUGHT TO SINGAPORE IN A ROYAL NAVY PATROL BOAT.
