    Background: Every tower and building in the Moscow Kremlin is a valuable monument of Russian architecture. In fact, the Kremlin breathes of Russian history. These treasures are carefully preserved by the state.

    The silver domes of the Archangel cathedral are now in scaffolding, The cathedral contains the tombs of the tsars from Ivan Kalita was buried here in 1341. Tsars were buried in the cathedral up to the first half of the 18th century.

    The central part of the cathedral is separated from the altar by a 43-feet high iconostasis framed with gold. Its is an excellent example of Russian woodcarving of the 17th-19th centuries.

    A new exposition was opened in the altar not long ago. It displays icons of the 16-17th centuries devoted to the persons who were buried in the cathedral.

    In the southern part of the altar a museum dedicated to the tsar Ivan the Terrible was opened. This is the tomb of tsar Ivan the Terrible and the tombs of his sons, Ivan and Fyodor. Next to the tombs are the bust of Ivan the Terrible and a mask of Fyodor made by the soviet anthropologist Mikhail Gherasimov who recreated their features from the remains in the tombs.

    Unique vessels and funeral shirts of the sons of Ivan the Terrible are valuable additions to the collection. The vessels and shirts were restored by Soviet expects.
