CU: Dr. Jamal Hallal of the Democratic Front for Liberation of Palestine speaking in English.
JAMAL HALLAL:"Petitions from our people in the camps in Lebanon, there are about 70,000 signatures on these petitions. Petitions demand the isolation of the Egyptian regime after the treason committed by Sadat in his visit to Israel. We... the petition indicates that there is only one representative of the Palestinian people, and that is the PLO, the Palestine Liberation Organisation. And that Sadat, by his step, unprecedented step in the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict, has conceded the last thing that he still had, and that is the rights of the Palestinian people. He has completely given away the rights of the Palestinian people. And we believe it is now necessary on the Palestinian level to create and take a very clear position against this step, and what this means at the political level.
And we also demand from all the Arab countries that are antagonistic to imperialism and that really care about the rights of the Palestinian people to form a strong front against Sadat and his regime; to isolate this regime; and to start a struggle for implementing the rights of the Palestinian people; the rights for return of the Palestinian people to their home; the right to self-determination, including the right to establish an independent Palestinian state on Palestinian territory."
The DFLP had earlier called for a general strike at all refugee camps in Lebanon, Israeli-occupied territories and elsewhere in the Arab world.
