  • Description

Israeli's raid on Entebbe airport in Uganda and problems over Rhodesia and Western Sahara are expected to force African leaders to prolong the summit the meeting of the organisation of African Unity (OAU) in Mauritius.

SYNOPSIS: Some of the leaders have already condemned Israel for its raid and the summit is to hold a debate on the subject. Observers say it's expected to be heated, with members supporting either Uganda and Somalia or Kenya and Ethiopia. And on Sunday Nigeria gave Mozambique a quarter of a million dollars for the liberation fight in Rhodesia. This was challenged by rival wings of the African National Council (ANC).

President Jaafar Nimeiri of Sudan, who survived a coup attempt last week, was at the meeting. Initially, though, he limited himself to holding talks with Ethiopia's premier, Brigadier General Teferi Banti, seen here on the left of the picture.

OAU spokesman, Peter Onu, read Kenya's reply to charges of complicity in the Israeli raid on the hijackers at Entebbe airport.
