    President Pompidou was host at a special luncheon at the Elysee Palace in paris on Friday (July 6) for President Diori of Niger and President Houphouet-Boigny of the Ivory Coast.

    The lunch was preceded by talks between President Pompidou and the two leaders on a wide range of topics affecting West Africa, including revision of co-operation treaties with France and general monetary matters.

    Afterwards President Diori told reporters he had thanked M. Pompidou for the 'very important aid' France had given Niger during the recent drought. He announced that a meeting of West African heads of state would be held within a month in Ouagadougou, capital of Upper Volta,to discuss ways of combating the effect the drought was having on developing countries in this region.

    SYNOPSIS: The Elysee Palace in Paris was the scene on Friday of meetings and a special luncheon hosted by President Pompidou for visiting West African leaders, President Houphouet-Boigny of the Ivory Coast and President Diori of Niger. President Houphouet-Boigny, who left the palace first, said he was very pleased with the outcome of the talks... and added that relations between his country and France were 'exemplary'.

    President's Houphouet-Boigny and Diori were representing an entente of five West African nations... Niger, Ivory Coast, Dahomey, Upper Volta and Togo. The discussions with Monsieur Pompidou revolved mainly around revised cooperation treaties between France and the entente, and general monetary matters.

    As he left the palace. Monsieur Diori told reporters he'd thanked President Pompidou for the very welcome help France had given his country during the recent drought. He added that the five West African nations were arranging a conference within a month at Ouagadougou, capital of Upper Volta, to find ways to combat effects of the Gisastrous drought in their region.
