    TORRENTIAL RAINS, HIGH WINDS, SNOW AND SLEET TODAY HAVE HIT THE EASTERN AND MID-WESTERN UNITED STATES. AT LEAST 13 HAVE DIED. FLOODS, THE WORST IN YEARS, HAVE CAUSED HEAVY DAMAGE. THOUSANDS HAVE BEEN EVACUATED AS THE OHIO RIVER THREATENS HOMES IN OHIO, KENTUCKY AND INDIANA.

    THE RAMPAGING RIVER TODAY ROSE TOWARDS AN EXPECTED FLOOD CREST OF 20 METRES (66 1/2 FEET) AFTER INVADING 100,000 HOMES. PROPERTY DAMAGE HAS BEEN ESTIMATED AT MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. THE RAINS WHICH CAUSED THE SWOLLEN RIVERS HAVE CEASED.
