    A FLEET OF BRITISH AND AUSTRALIAN WARSHIPS SAILED LINE ASTERN ALONG THE SINGAPORE WATERFRONT AND, LATER, ABOUT EIGHTY JET AIRCRAFT FROM THE ROYAL AIR FORCE AND THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER, H.M.S. HERMES, SWOOPED OVER THE CITY.

    THE WARSHIPS, LED BY THE MODERN 11,000-TON CRUISER, H.M.S. LION, HAS A BATTERY OF NEW QUICK FIRING SIX-INCH AND THREE-INCH GUNS, WERE AN IMPOSING SIGHT AS THEY STEAMED THROUGH THE NARROW CHANNEL BETWEEN THE SINGAPORE DOCKS AND BRANI ISLAND. THEY PASSED THROUGH KEPPEL HARBOUR AND WENT ON TO THE SINGAPORE NAVAL BASE.
