    The 21st convention of the International Federation of Asian and Western Pacific Contractors' Associations opened in Taipei on Tuesday (April 3).

    About 600 people attended the four-day meeting at the Chungshan Building.

    Delegates came from 15 nations. The opening session heard a written message of greeting from President Chain Kai-Shek, and C.I. Yen, Taiwan's vice-president made personal greetings to the gathering.

    Discussions centred on cooperation in the Asian and Western Pacific among contractors. Technical papers about work on the Taiwan North-South Freeway and the Tsen Wen Reservoir were given.

    Participants were given a tour of the Chinese Display centre where a construction material show was in progress.

    SYNOPSIS: In Taiwan on Tuesday, contractors and builders from fifteen nations attended the twenty-first convention of the International Federation of Asian and Western Pacific Contractors Associations. The convention was held in the Chungshan Building in Taipei, the country's capital.

    About six hundred people attended the four-day convention. The major topic of discussion was cooperation among contractors in the Western Pacific and Far Eastern area.

    Technical papers on the construction of the Taiwan North-South Freeway and the Tsen Wen Reservoir in Taiwan were presented.

    Taiwan President Chaing Kai-Shek sent written greetings to the gathering.

    Vice-President C.K. Yen made a personal appearance and spoke to the delegates, who later visited the Chinese Display Centre.
