Background: Panathinaikos of Greece qualified for the semifinals of the European Cup after holding Everton of England to a goalless draw in Athens yesterday (Wednesday). The Greek champions drew 1-1 at Everton and go through to the next round because away goals count double under the cup rules.
Both sides had some scoring opportunities, but the Greeks, well led by Domazos, held onto their aggregate advantage, and Everton rarely looked like a winning side. The capacity crowd of 25,000 was augmented by many hundreds on rooftops and balconies near the ground.
TEAMS: Panathinkaikos: Oikonomopoulos, Tomaras, Vlahos, Athanasopoulos, Camaras, Sourpis, Grammos, Fylakouris, Antoniadis, Domazos, Kapsis.
Everton: Rankin, Wright, Newton, Kendall, Labone, Harvey, Whittle, Ball, Royle, Hurst, Morrissey, Johnson (sub at 76 mins).
