Background: The first steps towards a return to normal government on the Caribbean island of Grenada have been taken, with the naming of a new provisional government by the Governor-General, Sir Paul Scoon. The new administration takes over from the short-lived military government and will prepare the way for a general election in about one year's time. Meanwhile, the people of Grenada are returning to work as shops and businesses re-open. Many are expressing their thanks for the American invasion, saying that they now enjoy freedom than they have for years. American troops on the island, some 3,000-strong, are still rounding up Grenadian troops formerly loyal to the military government. The US military presence is strongly in evidence in the island capital, St. George's, where they appear to be readily accepted by the population.
