    Jhirri Fair is the biggest Fair in Jammu & Kashmir State and is held annually to observe the Martyrdom of peasant Bawa Jitto, who lived some 500 years ago. When his landlord arrived to claim the entire production on which Jitto had laboured the whole year. Jitto argued with him but ultimately felt so frustrated that Jitto first killed his 4-year old daughter and then committed suicide on the heap of wheat grains. With their blood the wheatgrains become red and the landlord got those thrown in the river Chenab nearby. It is said that anyone who had even one grain out of that must come back to this place and all their descendants will also come. To this largely attended Fair come thousands of people from all over Northern India. They pray and they sing and dance. Cattle and camel fair is also held here and merrymaking goes on for two days.
