India's President V.V. Giri formally closed the six-week "Asia 72" trade fair on Monday(Dec 18) hailing it as a milestone for India.
A total of 7 million people visited the fair which had 47 foreign participants and generated 450 million rupees (GBP25 million) worth of trade. The fair, which cost 500 million rupees (GBP30 million) to stage, marked the 25th anniversary of Indian independence and part of the fair will become India's permanent exhibition complex.
President Giri said the fair gave India the opportunity to assess the strength of its industrial base and to show it in an international forum.
