    A man sprayed red paint across the famed painting 'Guernica' by Pablo Picasso in the Museum of Modern art in New York on Thursday (28th February). But because of a thick coat of varnish the painting was virtually unharmed.

    The man sprayed the words, 'KILL, LIES ALL' in letters a foot high, but was apprehended by cuards seconds later and was taken to a police station. There he ider??fied himself as Tony Shafrazi - a 30-year-old artist. He was charged with the offence.

    The painting was a protest against the bombing of the town of Guernica in the Spanish Civil War in 1937.
