Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh concluded his successful fortnight's visit to India Feb 4. He left Calcutta for Dacca, Pakistan, aboard a Comet IV jet-liner. The Governor of Bengal Miss Padmaja Naidu, Bengal's Chief Minister Dr. Roy and cabinet ministers bade him a warm farewell. Before he boarded his aircraft the Prince inspected a guard of honour.
Prince Philip's two-week visit to India has been one of the busiest and most successful Royal tours for many years. He was the first British Royal visitor to India since the country gained independence. During his visit he met government officials, native dancers, school children, and ordinary citizens from all walks of life. His wide-spread travels took him to the provinces where he visited industries, the highest dam in the world, model villages and other achievements of modern India. Whenever he went the crowds went almost wild with enthusiasm.
