  • Description

Acting Khmer Republic Prime Minister Sisowath Sirik Matak briefed newsman at the National Press Club in Washington on Tuesday after an hour's talk with President Nixon at the White House. This coverage is from NBC News.

Mr. Matak said he firmly supports President Nixon's forthcoming trip to The People's Republic of China.

The main subject of the talk with President Nixon was to obtain assurances of continuing military aid for the Khmer Republic. Mr. Matak told reporters he had made no new request for aid, although he had stressed that the Khmer Republic could not survive Communist pressure without continued U.S. help.

He said it was not necessary to discuss further aid since Mr. Nixon has already asked Congress for assistance to the Khmer Republic expected to amount to about 300 million dollars (125 million Sterling).
