    THE MEDICAL COMMISSION OF THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE -- MEETING AT LAUSANNE IN SWITZERLAND -- TODAY (SATURDAY) MADE A FINAL RULING ON CONTROVERSIAL SEX TESTS FOR WOMEN ATHLETES.
    THE NINE MAN COMMISSION, UNDER THE CHAIRMANSHIP OF PRINCE ALEXANDER MEROD OF BELGIUM, CONFIRMED THAT ALL FEMALE COMPETITORS WILL HAVE TO TAKE SEX TESTS BEFORE TAKING PART IN THE MEXICO OLYMPIC GAMES. IT ALSO DECIDED THAT THE FIRST FIVE COMPETITORS IN EVERY HEAT WILL HAVE TO SUBMIT TO DRUG TESTS.
    THE COMMISSION SAID THAT SALIVA TESTS WILL BE USED TO CHECK ON THE SEX OF FEMALE ATHLETES AND IN DOUBTFUL CASES HORMONE TESTS WILL BE GIVEN. BUT PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS WILL ONLY BE USED AS A LAST RESORT.
    REGARDING DRUG TESTS, THE COMMISSION IS SCHEDULED TO MEET TOMORROW (SUNDAY) TO DECIDE WHICH SUBSTANCES ARE TO BE BARRED AS DRUGS. THE COMMISSION DECIDED LAST YEAR THAT SEX TESTS WOULD BE CONDUCTED AT MEXICO BUT TODAY'S MEETING SET THE FINAL SEAL ON NOW THEY WOULD BE CARRIED OUT.
